Winter 2023

We have taken part in a number of events during December.

Winter Hymnal – Concert on 3rd Dec 2023

This was a lovely concert on a winter afternoon with special guests, violinists Charlie Roberts and Nina Doig.

Charlie and Nina played some beautiful duets and solo pieces, as well as accompanying us in The Snow.

We sang a variety of songs, including our Isle of Man programme, Underneath the Stars (a Kate Rusby song), White Winter Hymnal with body percussion and a few carols and Christmas songs.

Warming up before the concert

Light up a Life for St Anne’s Hospice

Once again we sang at St Peter’s Church, Hale on Wed 6th Dec for the annual Light up a Life service. The choir sang the beautiful Where the Light Begins (Susan LaBarr) during the lighting ceremony.

Halecroft Residential Home and The Bull’s Head, Hale Barns

On Thursday 14th Dec, we sang carols for the residents of Halecroft Residential Home. Many residents came down to hear us sing and they joined in with some of the well-known carols.

We continued the evening across the road at The Bull’s Head, where we sang carols then disappeared upstairs for our own social with buffet.

Carols in the Stamford Quarter, Altrincham

Our final performance of the year was on Saturday 16th December where we sang carols for an hour in the Stamford Quarter as part of the Festive Family Fun Day. We collected £124.85 for CAFT (the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust). A half day visit for a family to CAFT costs £12, so we were able to fund 10 visits.

Summer Concert

How can I Keep from Singing

Our summer concert was on a hot Friday evening, 16th June 2023, with Dolby and Hughes piano duo as our invited guests.

As always, we sang a variety of songs, including better known songs such as Both Sides Now and I’ll Stand by You as well as Ubi Caritas and, of course, How can I Keep from Singing.

This was also the world premiere of I Wanna be Yours, based on a peom by John Cooper Clarke and written by our patron, Sasha Johnson Manning. It was very well received and we will be performing it again at the Festival of Choirs in the Isle of Man.

Concert with Poynton Male Voice Choir

On April 1st, we were proud to be the guests of Poynton Male Voice Choir at their concert at Poynton Methodist Church.

We sang 10 songs, including our first performance of the beautiful Your One and Only Life.

From Eileen Rigg (MD):

‘’I just wanted to say thank you again for being our guests on Saturday. Your choir was superb and it was a privilege to have you.
The men were buzzing at last night’s rehearsal! They all knew it was the best concert we’ve done. They did very well and I was proud of them, but Di Voci were so good that I’m sure it lifted them.’’
