ABOUT DI VOCI
Di Voci is an award winning established ladies choir based in the Altrincham area and performs in concerts, competitions and for private events throughout Greater Manchester and Cheshire. We are a not for profit organisation.
The choir was set up in October 2007 by Musical Director, Lorraine Brown. Lorraine studied singing at Trinity College of Music and she has extensive experience as a soloist in opera and oratorio and as a chorister. Lorraine is a singing teacher and works in both private and state schools in the South Manchester area as well as teaching privately. Vocal training is an important part of our rehearsal schedule.
Di Voci performs a major concert twice a year, at Christmas and in the summer. We also get involved in other local events such as Lymm Festival , Buxton Fringe Festival, Altrincham Festival, Hale Barns Festival and perform in various charity concerts throughout the year. Each year Di Voci go “on tour” and have played in prestigious venues in Prague, Paris, Limerick.
You can also hire Di Voci to sing at private functions like weddings and family celebrations – please see our “Listen to Di Voci” or “Hire Di Voci + Testimonials” pages.
Or if you are a choir or musical group and would like to collaborate with us at a concert then please get in touch. We have collaborated in the past with performers such as Sale Brass Band, Tideswell Male Voice Choir, Chester Male Voice Choir, Chamber Ensemble Partita, Vivaldi Ensemble, Kaleidescope Jazz and, Lacuna choir, piano duo Dolby & Hughes, Altrincham Chamber Orchestra and welcome further collaborations in the future.
The choir are now 43 members strong and sing a wide repertoire from classical choral works to modern pieces – from Handel to Sting!
The choir is a close knit group of women with a wide age range but all with a common goal of enjoying singing together and for others. “For many of us, coming together once a week to sing is an oasis from our busy lives…. but even more than that, the camaraderie of this group of women has been the solace and support that has inspired us to get through those difficult moments in our lives. The joy we get from singing together as a group is absolute” quote from Alto member.
Di Voci have entered a small number of competitions over the past few years, including the Manchester Amateur Choral Competition at the Royal Northern College of Music, and were proud to be winners at the Alderley Edge Music Festival in the choral category in 2013 and were the winners of the ladies choir category at the prestigious North Wales Choral Festival in Llandudno, November 2014. All the members of Di Voci rise to the challenge in preparing for these events, and all agree it is a thrilling experience whatever the outcome (but especially thrilling to win!!)
The well known and respected musician Sasha Johnson Manning became patron of Di Voci in 2016. Sasha is a composer and performer, including singing for BBC Radio 4 daily service. she has been commissioned to compose both secular and religious works, notably Manchester Carols, and has also written works for Di Voci. We are very proud to have Sasha as our patron.
We are also very lucky to have Abigail Perry as our accompanist. Abi is a highly qualified professional musician and teacher. Having such an accomplished musician to accompany us is the cornerstone of the choir’s performances. Please see the attached link https://www.musicteachers.co.uk/teacher/aeab60b273ff0d01e01f
We select a nominated charity each year and arrange events at which we can collect for those charities. We also perform at events held by other local charities in the area such as Light up a Life for St Ann’s Hospice. We feel it is important to help where we can in aid of such good causes.
Di Voci meet for rehearsals on Monday evenings during term time, 7.30 to 9.30 pm, at the URCF (Bowdon Downs church hall), Bowdon Road in Altrincham, WA14 2AH.
