We are currently welcoming new members of our choir. If you are interested, speak to Ben, our MD, and come to a couple of rehearsals first.
What sort of choir are you?
We are a choir of around 40 women (sorry guys – this one isn’t for you!). We generally split into 4 sections – Soprano 1 and 2, Alto 1 and 2.
Do I need to read music?
The ability to read music is desirable but is not a deal breaker. There are several members who do not read music. Everyone has their own pack of sheet music.
How much does it cost?
We ask for a subscription of £60 payable 3 times a year. This covers costs such as new music, room hire, MD and accompanist costs.
When and where do you rehearse?
We rehearse on Monday nights, term time only, from 7.15pm – 9.15pm in the URCF hall in Altrincham (just behind Altrincham Girls’ Grammar school). There is a car park.
How many concerts do you do a year?

We do two concerts a year, in summer and before Christmas. but we often perform as guests at other concerts. In addition to this, we do charity events, carol singing and are sometimes invited to sing at weddings. We sometimes sing in competitions (and even win occasionally!) – in recent years we have sung in the Isle of Man Festival of Choirs and the Eisteddfod in Langollen.
Are all concerts local?

Not all of them – we are very keen on our Di Voci tours. This year we are going to Bristol for a weekend, where we will sing in Bristol Cathedral. In the past we have been to Lincoln, Durham, Liverpool, Paris, Krakow, Limerick and Prague.
Do I have to audition?
You need to be able to sing in tune but you don’t need to have had singing lessons (although many members have had lessons). Ben will listen to you sing to make sure that you are singing in the section that is right for your voice.
What else do you expect of choir members?
We expect you to be committed to attending weekly rehearsals (at least 80% of rehearsals), keen to learn music by heart and excited to perform with us. We provide rehearsal tracks to help with learning music.
What sort of music do you sing?
We sing a mixture of classical and contemporary music, both sacred and secular. Some of our favourite composers are Sarah Quartel, Eric Whitacre, Bob Chilcott and Ola Gjello. Some of our recent songs include Yesterday (Beatles), Lift Thine Eyes (Mendelssohn) and Bridge over Troubled Water. You can listen to us here.
What can I expect from Di Voci?

Vocal training, hard work and a lot of fun! We have regular social events so you will soon make new friends.
I’m interested! What do I do now?
Contact Ben, our MD, using the form below and he will invite you to come to a couple of rehearsals so that you can see if it is right for you. He will then hear you sing, and, once you have paid your subs, you will get your music pack.
